Champagne - a noble drink for special occasions

There is probably no other drink that is connected to luxury, exclusivity and celebrations as champagne. This is for example due to the strict rules of origin and production. 

 

In 1729 Nicolas Ruinart founded the oldest still existing champagne house. Champagne is not just one product as you can see looking at the offers of Ruinart. To make sure you find your way through the "Champagne" jungle on your next visit to a German Romantik Hotel & Restaurant we are going to give you some details:

 


 

R de Ruinart Brut

 

Composition:

An assemblage with 40% Chardonnay, 60% Pinot Noir, thereof 25% older wines.

 

Appearance:

Golden yellow colour, beautiful brillance, with a fine string of bubbles.

 

Odour:

Smooth, fresh and fruity with a little pear. Intensive odour.

 

Flavour:

Great vitaliy. Wine with a fine balance, round, with the flavour of ripe fruits. A finale of middle length.

 

Accompaniment:

Shellfish, grilled turbot, sole. Cheese like Coulommiers or Maroille.

 


 

Ruinart Rosé

 

Composition:

An assemblage with 45% Chardonnay from Premier Cru vineyard sites and 55% Pinot Noir, thereof 18% matured as red wine.

 

Apperance:

Shining orange rose colour reminding of rose petals, very subtle bubbles, vital.

 

Odour:

Fine, subtle fruit, reminding of red berries: red currant and blackberry. Beautiful intensity of odour impressed by primary flavours. 

 

Flavour:

In harmony, well balanced. A fine wine, smooth and round with a little bit of morello cherry. A finale of middle length.

 

Accompaniment:

Poulard, dove, white meat (veal). Desserts with sponge cake and red berries.

 


 

Ruinart Blanc de Blancs

 

Composition:

Assemblage with 100% Chardonnay of various vintages.

 

Appearance:

Very beautiful colour, light golden yellow with shiny brilliance. Strong, long staying bubbles.

 

Odour:

The first impression is very intensive with a little bit fo fresh citrus fruit, especially lime. On second impression bloomy flavour.

 

Flavour:

Soft, in harmony, very round and winy. Flavours that remind of nectarine, apricot and mirabelle. A finale of middle length.

 

Accompaniment:

Pike, Veal.

 


 

Dom Ruinart Blanc de Blancs 1998

 

Composition:

Dom Ruinart 1998 was exclusively composed of Chardonnay of the best Grands Cru vineyard sites of the Côte des Blancs (66%) and the Montagne de Reims (34%). 

 

Appearance:

The spring-fresh, light golden colour with a little bit of green is refined by the reflexion of light. The especially fine bubbles stay for a long time.

 

Odour:

The  first impression unites bloomy and fruity flavours before a racy mineral background. At first there is a delicate odour of white flowers, added by luscious flavours of pear, peach and reineclaude. The first impression of sweetness is affirmed by a hint of pastry and fresh chestnut, a further sign of the immense variety and complexity of flavours. 

 

Flavour:

The fresh and creamy flavour of the vintage of 1998 impresses by its balance. Fruity flavours dominate but unfold in the flavours of ripe and exotic fruit in the nose. Citrus fruit, kumquats, bergamot, mango... each of these fruits seems to dedicate its best flavours to this great champagne. 

 

Accompaniment:

The fine, fresh and balanced flavour of the Dom Ruinart 1998 is in harmony with the aperitif as well as exquisite dishes like a salad of crab and grapefruit or gilthead-lime-tartar. For lovers of Japanese food champagne is the perfect accompaniment for tempura and sashimi made of sea bass. For dessert an apple-mango-crumble highlights the variety of fruity flavours elicately. Enormous potential for development.

 


 

Dom Ruinart Rosé 1996

 

Composition:

An assemblage with 84% Chardonnay Grand Cru from the Côte des Blancs and the Montagne de Reims, thereof 55% from the Côte des Blancs and 45% from the Montagne de Reims. 16% Pinot Noir from the vineyard sites Verzenay and Verzy matured as red wine.

 

Appearance:

Rose wine with autumn-like amber light reflexion. Beautiful clarity and brilliance. Fine bubbles staying for a long time.

 

Odour:

On the first impression a little bit of raspberry, quince and liquorice that develops with the right temperature (ideal: 11-13 °C) into a strong mix of red berries.

 

Flavour:

The typical Dom Ruinart fresh palatine makes for a youthful appearance beside its ripeness of 10 years. A perfect balance between a little bit of red fruit and cirtus fruit. First class elegance supported by a long final (10-12 seconds).

 

Accompaniment:

This great champagne of the vintage 1996 shows finesse, elegance and clarity. The perfect champagne for lobster, crayfish, red mullet, calf's liver. Good as well with Mimolette or Gouda. Harmonising perfectly with desserts like tarte of mirabelles or crème brûlée with red fruit. A champagne for connoisseurs facing it with respect and time. A great champagne for lovers of rose champagne and for lovers of Dom Ruinart. This vintage is adding fullness and complexity with time.
